COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION DOWEL, WOOD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use
of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers wooden dowel rods for general purpose use.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The dowel rods shall be of the following type and diameter, as specified (see 7.2).

3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2), the wood species shall be at the option of the manufacturer and of the type accepted within industry for the manufacture of this product.
3.2 Crook/Bow. The dowel rod shall have no crook exceeding 3/8 inch (9.5 mm)
and no bow exceeding 3/4 inch (19.0 mm) in 36 inches (914.4 mm).
a. Crook is any discreet departure of the dowel axis from a straight line extending through the center of the dowel ends, within the dowel length.
b. Bow is any continuous departure of the dowel axis from a straight line extending through the center of the dowel ends, in the overall dowel length.
3.3 Cross grain. Slope of grain shall not exceed 1 inch (25.4 mm) in 12 inches
(304.8 mm).
