Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking (Civil Agencies).
Lumber purchased for Civil Agencies shall be prepared for delivery in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard D-3951. Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking (DOD).
Lumber purchase for overseas Department of Defense (DoD) consignees shall be prepared for delivery in accordance with the applicable sections of Military Specification MIL-L-14362, Lumber, Unitizing and Loading of. Lumber purchased for DoD consignees within the continental United States shall be prepared for delivery in accordance with ASTM D-3951 except that each unitized load shall be additionally marked with the weight and cube.
Notes.
The guide lines of the American Wood Preservative Association shall be followed.
Purchasers shall specify species and grade, classification, dimensions (size), degree of seasoning, surfacing, treatment, and quantity.
For machine stress rated lumber, the purchaser shall specify the required F-E combination:
F= Fiber stress in bending
E= Modules of elasticity
Voluntary product standards are available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402.
Military specifications are available from the Naval Publications and Forms Center, 5801 Tabor Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19120.
Copies of ASTM Standard D-3951 are available from the American Society for Testing and Materials, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
